Abstract
Gastroscopic finding, gastroscopic biopsy under direct vision and gastric juice analysis by augmented histamine test were analysed in 92 patients who complained gastrointestinal symptoms and diagnosed as chronic gastritis endoscopically in 82 cases and benign ulcer in 10 between May 1976 and September 1977 in Department of Internal Medicine, National Medical Center, Seoul, Korea.
The results were as followings:
1) By gastroscopically, chronic superficial gastritis was 60 cases and atropic gastritis. was 22 cases. There was no significant sex difference but more prevalent incidence (60%)in over 40 yrs in chronic superficial gastritis and 73% in atrophic gastritis by age distri
bution.
2) There were no significant difference in symptoms or duration of symptoms among chronic superficial gastritis, atrophic gastritis and benign gastric ulcer.
3) The basal acid output, maximal acid output by histamine stimulation and amount of gastric secretion were low in atrophic gastritis, benign peptic ulcer and chronic superficial gastritis in order of frequency..
4) Concerning the age and gastric acidity, basal acid output is highest in 4 th decade and lower by increasing age, maximal acid output is highest in 3 rd decade and lower also by increasing age.
5) Gastric acidity by pathological fin ings of biopsy, specimen, gastric acidity is lowest in intestinal¢¥ metaplasia and is lower in atrophic hyperplastic gastritis than other pathological findings.
6) Comparing the gastroscopic findings and patholo
gical findings, atrophic hyperplastic gastritis proven by pathologically is 45% in chroric superficial gastritis by gastroscopically and 71% in atrophic gastritis.
7) In chronic superficial gastritis, atrophic hyperplastic gastritis pattern presents in highest frequency in pylorus (33%) and gastric antrum, body and gastric fundus in order of frequency.
In atrophic gastritis, pylorus is the most frequent site of atrophic hyperplastic gastritis bat no special difference in various sites. of the stomach.
8) Intestinal metaplasia is more frequent finding in atrophic gastritis, and in pylorus and gastric antrum than body or fundus in chronic superficial gastritis and atrophic gastritis.
